What to do in Florianopolis

Florianopolis is one the seaside, on the western side of Santa Catarina Island. The inland area of the island houses some interesting geographical features, such as the “Ribeirao da Iiha” hill or several lagoons such as Conceiçao and Peri.

The city has a few interesting places to see:

Hercilio Luz Bridge
Designed by two engineers from the United States, it was inaugurated in 1926 and meant an important change in the history of the island since until then all of its inhabitants had to reach the mainland either by boat or raft. The bridge hangs at 43 metres and is held up by two 75 metre towers. Although it is now closed off to traffic, it is still one of the city’s icons.

Historic centre and Beiramar Avenue

The historic centre of Florianopolis has some outstanding buildings: the headquarters of the former customs office, the public municipal market or the Cathedral all preserve the original flavour of the first settlers. Beiramar Avenue is an excellent place for oceanfront strolls, surrounded by hotels, restaurants and shopping centres.

An evening trip to the Conceiçao Lagoon
Around the lagoon is the largest assortment of leisure activities of the island: restaurants, cafés, bars, discotheques… an area entirely dedicated to leisure and fun activities.
