Iguazu Falls
The Iguazu River (comes from the Guarani language meaning “big water”) is the largest river in the Brazilian state of Parana. The Iguazu River reaches the city of Foz de Iguazu nine hundred kilometres from its source. The differences in height of the land formed millions of years ago created the most plentiful waterfalls in the world. The first westerner to discover the falls was the Spanish colonialist Alvar Nuñez Cabeza de Vaca in 1542. They are over 2,600 metres long, 900 on the Brazilian side and 1,700 in Argentina. They are currently considered one of the most spectacular natural wonders of the world.
Both the Argentinean and the Brazilian sides are declared as national parks and are designated UNESCO Natural World Heritage Sites
